Mural of Corozal History in Town Hall Corozal Town is the seat of government in the Corozal District, the northernmost district in the country. It is located about 9 miles south of the Mexican border and about 90 miles north of Belize City. Population is about 8,100, with a diversity of residents of several races and creeds. Corozal was originally settled by Mestizo refugees moving south escaping the Caste War of the Yucatán. Prior to becoming a town in the 1840s, Corozal was a private estate. Years before the Maya city of Santa Rita existed in the area that is now Corozal. Santa Rita is now an archeological site in the town. This may have been the original Pre-Columbian town called Chetumal, which is now the name of the city in Mexico just across the border. VP Castle Investments is located in Corozal Town, and we think it is a great place to live and buy or build the house or business of your dreams. We have several listings in the district, details found on the following pages.
